CHAPTER ELEVEN PRACTICE, PRACTICE, PRACTICE In our team practices, we teach skills and concepts. But, those practices only last about a third of the time a player needs to adequately learn the game. This means players need to practice at home. They can practice juggling, passing the ball off a wall or with a parent or sibling. They should be encouraged to play soccer with their friends; it is these street soccer games that offer a player the true freedom to experiment with and perfect their skills and moves. If there has been one constant in the success of our players over the years it is this: those that practiced the most at home became the best players. One final aspect about practicing at home - players never over do it. They quit before they over tire themselves and risk injury. |
