Barry played professional soccer for 15 years. His professional days saw him named four times to the NASL (the first major professional outdoor soccer league that included such soccer greats as Pele, Cruyff, Beckenbaurer, Best, and Gordon Hill) All Star Team while he played for Tulsa and Minnesota. When the NASL folded in the 1980's Barry migrated to the MISL. Barry died after a brief battle with cancer in October, 2006. He was postumously recognized as the Kansas Girl's Coach of the year in 2006.
