What Are The Skills In Which Kindergarten Kids Should Excel For Academic Success

What Are The Skills In Which Kindergarten Kids Should Excel For Academic Success?

According to the kindergarten teachers, there are a few developmental areas which play an important role in determining how the kids fare in their preschool activities. While the connections between these areas might seem nonexistent, they nevertheless exists. Gaining an understanding of these areas and how they relate to the childrens performance in preschool is something which should be important for every parent out there. This will enable parents to better support their kids during their preschool years, thereby fostering greater development of skills. Fortunately, the awareness of this fact has now surged as indicated by the teachers of kindergarten schools in Singapore. In light of this phenomenon, Mulberry Kindergarten School has taken the initiative to simplify these facts for the general public. In this article we shall discuss what are the skills in which kindergarten kids should excel for academic success.

Fine motor skills
To those who are uninitiated, fine motor skills are the ones which enable people to exercise greater dexterity when it comes to manual tasks. Fine motor skills are essential for many tasks throughout one’s life such as writing, using cutlery and others like that. Having a high degree of fine motor skills enables kids to learn things faster, which will eventually
translate into greater confidence in doing anything. Since kids naturally have a strong curiosity for learning new things, making them work on their fine motor skills should not be hard. There is no dearth of activities which will make kids exercise their fine motor skills under the guise of games. By the time kids are ready to go to school, they should have developed a good pencil grip, scissor grip and lace grip at the very least.

Alphabetic awareness
The need of alphabetic awareness for kids needs no elaboration, as it is the first step on which kids develop the knowledge needed for the rest of their life. For those who are unaware of what alphabetic awareness is, it is the ability to make sense of the written words and letters without any assistance. Firstly, children must be taught to identify individual letters randomly. Once they are able to identify the letters correctly, they should be taught to identify basic words. This will enable the kids to get a jumpstart on reading, thereby arming them with the skills to pursue knowledge on their own. Although absolute perfection cannot be expected from kids, they should be able to exhibit decent alphabetic awareness by the time they are seven years old at the very least.

In conclusion, motor skills and alphabetic awareness are two of many skills that your child needs for a headstart in education. It is the two most important in our opinion. Fortunately with the establishment of quality preschools, you can worry less about your child’s development in this area when you send him or her to a one.

Making Friends in the Early Years Prep Kids for Life Away from Home

Making Friends in the Early Years Prep Kids for Life Away from Home

Kids tend to get grumpy after a long holiday when they are sent back to school. It can be quite a tough job for a parent to see the little one cry as s/he fights to stay at home. While it may be great to have the smallie at home, s/he needs to attend school, whether s/he is ready to or not.

School is that time in life when innocence is at its peak. Making friends in the early years helps kids better their social and developmental skills for the later years. Evidence has proven that an only child comes out of her/his shell while s/he is in the company of her/his peers.

Group study is a wonderful way for kids to iron out their study problems with classmates. As children are grouped into sections during a classroom setting, they debate and deconstruct the details provided by the educator. It brings out the reasoning and analytical power of the child at the nursery school Singapore instead of staying put at one desk all the time.

Keeping mum in the class is never a good sign for the teacher or the student. Either the child has not comprehended the details or the teacher has not provided valuable information in an easy manner for the nursery child. Asking questions to children in the class is a done deal across schools. When a child does not have the answer, the teacher finds a solution by provided personal tutorship for the child so that the child understands.

A group of children laughing at something is music to the ears. Their giggles can keep you happy for hours on end. As children get to know their classmates, their love for various subjects in the classroom opens up. Using this as a way to get children involved in a subject opens up their minds to learning and deciphering content provided by the textbooks and the educator.

Learning about others in the classroom is an education in itself. Children get to learn about their classmates and their ways back home through verbal discussions in the classroom. Speaking out is encouraged as this breaks away any shyness and barriers as kids just continue being kids for as long as they possibly can.

As children learn to make friends with their peers, they are ready to leave the nest and make way for a life of learning and fun in school.

The Atmosphere: A good school should have a vibrant, open and friendly ambience in order for your child to feel happy and comfortable there. Look for a school which has the reputation of being nurturing and friendly with the children.
Activities: It is important for a nursery school to have a host of activities which are not only interesting and engaging but stimulating to a childs imagination as well. The best lessons are those which appear interesting and fun to a child. Therefore the more innovative and well thought out the activities at the nursery school the more the chances of your child having an enriching experience there.

Safety: Safety measures and adherence to health standards are of paramount importance while looking for a good nursery school for your child. It is your duty to ensure that you are putting your child in a safe environment, under responsible adult supervision when you enroll him or her in a nursery school. On your visit to the nursery school before the enrollment you should not find broken or damaged equipment or an unkempt playground. Also make sure that the school is sufficiently equipped to deal with fire hazards i.e. it has adequate number of fire extinguishers approachable as well as functional fire exits. There should also be proper waste management and the toilet, corridors etc. should be spotless.

The Staff: The staff is possibly the most important factor and plays a crucial role in your childs experience at the nursery school. They should ask you questions about your child and get to know his or her habit, temperament and other necessary information in detail. They should also be friendly and approachable. Also look for a nursery school where the staff stays on for longer. This is important to provide a stable environment for your child.

The Essential Know How Behind Tuning Your Drums

Learning how to tune your drums is basic to your development as a drummer. You may not always have a teacher or someone experienced around to help you tune your drums for you, and so you should definitely know how to do them yourself. The process of tuning a drum is not very difficult, but you should not expect to get it right from the start. A technique that requires practice and building your ear, it takes time to reach a point where you are confident in your abilities.

If you are looking to pick up drumming, whether you are an adult or a child, you should consider Ossia Music School. They not only offer classes across all skill levels, but also short series of classes if you are not ready to commit long-term. Check out drumming classes Ossia at their website here: http://ossia.edu.sg/course/drums/

Ideally, do this a few times in front of your teacher so that you know the final sound is right. Once you know what kind of sound you are looking for, you will know when to stop tuning. The same applies to different genres of music and drumming. A drum kit can be tuned according to your style to suit different genres. What that means is that your ability to tune can improve your versatility as a performer.

A finely tuned drum also sounds infinitely better than an untuned one. Given that drum kits are expensive investments by themselves, keeping them well tuned so that your kit sounds brilliant ensures that you get your return on investment.

Tuning Your Drum Kit:

Tuning your drum kit is a lot less complicated than you think. The procedure is simple and you can even look at online videos to get a clearer understanding of what you need to do. But you must remember that not everyone looks for the same sounds from their drums, and that tuning promotes personal playing styles.

• The first step is to properly seat your drum kit on the shell. Before you do this, ensure that you have properly wiped and cleaned both the surface and the edges of your drums. Dirt and grime can affect the overall sound quality of your drums.
• After cleaning, place the drum kit on top of the shell and lightly screw in the tension rods. These rods will be properly tightened later.
• Now that the tension rods are secure, you should stretch out the drum head. Do this by making a fist with your hand and gently pressing down on the middle of the drum head.
• Next start to tighten the tension rods by working on opposite pairs.
• Once they are tight, start to hear for inconsistent tones. If you catch any, go back to the tension rods until the uneven tone is gone.

And that is it, that is how you tune a drum. It takes a good ear and a steady hand, but they are both skills built by practice. Enrol yourself in drum lessons Singapore to master the instrument.

The Important Aspects of Kindergarten Education

Education is one of the most important things that we could give to our children. Of course we could teach them at home, but it would still be different if we send them to a formal school. The first school that a child could be exposed to is a kindergarten school. Parents are encouraged to let their children join because they can learn a lot and faster when they are in school. They are exposed to the outside world which enables them to communicate and interact with different people and also to explore and discover several things inside and outside the school and home. In addition, it could prepare them best for more advanced lessons and subjects once they enter grade school.

UrbanPro will tell us more about the importance of kindergarten education for your child.

Importance of Kindergarten Education for your Child

The term ‘Kindergarten’ is derived from German which means ‘garden for the children’. Also known as PreSchool, it is an educational program designed for young children to prepare them for school. This part of early education for children, acts as a transition from home to school environment. At Kindergarten, children are moulded by giving a number of games and activities such as drawing, singing, which help them develop their fine motor skills, a love for learning and build social skills.

The Kindergarten preschool system in India doesn’t have formal directives, so preschools don’t require any affiliation. Children usually attend pre-primary and kindergarten classes when they are 3 years old. A period of 3 to 4 years are spent in kindergarten classes, before joining the primary school. Unlike Primary education, preprimary schooling is not yet mandatory in India, but highly preferred. Kindergarten education can really provide something for our children, not just in academics but in character as well. We all know that learning starts at home. As early as possible, we could already teach our children with the basics such as the letters of the alphabet, number, and a little bit of reading as well.

In an article by Ed Pearce, he will share to us the importance of learning to read before kindergarten.

Importance of Learning to Read before Kindergarten

RENO, Nev. (KOLO) — Chelsea Moore began taking her son, Ronan, to the library for story time when he was just seven months old.

“Going to the library was a nice way for me to get out of the house with a young kid, meet other parents and he would just sit there and listen,” said Moore.

As time went by, Ronan was playing with the other children, singing along, responding to the story teller and picking up books.

Ronan’s now three-years-old. His sister, Amelia, is 18-months-old. The routine continues. They’re often found at the library, picking out books, listening and responding as Moore reads.

At home, there are even more books.

“They’re learning how to imagine,” said Moore. “He will sit down and read with his stuffed animals. There are different words and phrases that I don’t use at school, so they’re being exposed to different language skills.”

And it’s paying off. The love of books and reading has taken hold.

“He even likes to go through cookbooks. We have to go through a cookbook and we read the ingredients to him and talk about how we make things,” said Moore. Read more here.

A little bit knowledge of reading for kids has a really big help for them when they enter kindergarten. They wouldn’t get hard up in class because they have a little background and understanding about it already. They would be more advanced which will lessen the pressure and hardship of learning with groups in class. Aside from reading, there are also other important things that children learn in kindergarten. Some of these are alphabets, numbers, singing, spatial learning and geometry or shapes. Many kindergartens in Singapore like Chiltern house preschool has also placed an emphasis on reading time in between lessons in order to cultivate the joy of reading in the children.

Edward Schroeter, in his article below, will tell us the importance of spatial reasoning and geometry in kindergarten.

The Importance of Spatial Reasoning and Geometry in Kindergarten

Kindergarten students benefit from robust spatial skills and geometry education

The simple act of documenting the mathematics learning in my kindergarten students’ block and puzzle play has led me to some revelations about my three-, four-, five- and six-year-old students. They are capable of relatively sophisticated spatial skills such as mental rotation, symmetry, perspective-taking, use of scale, navigation skills, and basic map-making, yet I am just beginning to understand the place of spatial reasoning and geometry in their learning.

A 2012 survey of JK to Grade 2 teachers in Ontario by Cathy Bruce, Joan Moss, and John Ross has made it clear that Ontario Kindergarten teachers like me have apparently been spending the least amount of instructional time on geometry and spatial thinking skills compared to the four other strands of mathematics, when they might be one of most important strands. Wow! Those are really great effects that children can benefit from. There is really a vast number of benefits and importance of sending your children to a kindergarten class. It is a really helpful preparation for her future lessons and more advanced classes. Children don’t only learn alphabets and numbers because kindergarten classes also teach children good manners, reasoning, and many others. However, as parents, we should not let the school alone to do the teaching because ever before we send our children to school, it is our responsibility to teach and supplement our children’s minds even with just the basic ones.

You should avoid these mistakes while taking violin lessons.

It is often said that learning violin is very difficult, as it a lot of things need to be kept in mind while playing the violin. When you begin to learn playing violin you will come across many cardinal mistakes that everybody makes but the need to be completely avoided going forward in order to excel at what you are doing. In this article we are going to tell you the various mistakes that need to be avoided at any cost to play the instrument well. Mistakes are part of learning and you will make them many times but always remember practice makes perfect.

You posture should be correct at all times.

the first rule of playing violin is keeping the posture accurate at all time, as poor posture will not only cause you discomfort in your neck and body but also ruin your experience of playing the instrument. Since playing the violin involves resting it on your neck and collar bone, you need to be very careful not to over stretch at one go and hurt your neck and back. Poor posture while playing violin can have several unforeseen problems and you need to be aware of that.

Do not over practice, as that is not going to help you.

Perseverance is very important while playing the violin but you also need to understand that over practice is not going to help you at all. You are not going to get it correct all the same day or at the same hour. Practice needs to be done every day and needs to be habit. You need to spend some time every day to practice and not overdo it in one day. If you overdo it you are going to injure your neck and your body and will not be able to practice until you get better.

You have to check if the violin had been tuned.

It is critical that you check if the violin is tuned. You need to invest in an electric tuner in order to tune it and later you will know it well enough to tune it on your own. Tuning the violin is extremely important. Suppose if you are performing in front of an audience and you have not tuned the violin, it will be an embarrassment all for a little fault of starting to play a violin which was out of tune. Hence tuning the violin at the very beginning is very important.

Take breaks while playing and practicing

It is important that you take breaks while practicing and performing because you will have to stand in a particular position for a long time and your body will start to give in if you continue to stand in one position for a long time. Hence you need to take small breaks and give your neck and finger a little bit of rest. You can time your practice session and your performance session well to allow for short breaks.

Lastly believe in your abilities

Believing in yourself is very important. This is a pre requisite for everything that you do and you need to understand that as a novice you are going to mistakes and it is absolutely fine to make some mistakes. Mistakes will help you learn and be a good violin player. Be confident and be proud of making mistakes. But do not repeat the mistakes as much as possible because then it will turn into a habit.

Hence these are the various mistakes you should avoid to play the violin well and excel at it. Become an expert by enrolling yourself for violin classes in Singapore >

The Ways In Which Sending Your Child To A Child Care Centre Helps In His/Her Social Skills

A child care centre is the first place in which your child will learn to interact with other children for an extended period of time, that may be of the same age group of different ages. They learn to be able to co-exist in a way that can suit everyone. This is the only place that a child can learn the fundamentals of different values such as understanding, compromise, respect, etc. When they reach formal school, there might not be a chance to learn such life tips where they will begin to be evaluated in academic performance already.

One such child care in Singapore is Chiltern House. They not only grow your child’s confidence but also boost your child in skills that help him/her transit to primary school. Language skills, arithmetic, and Science lessons are some of the curriculum that Chiltern House offers. If you are serious about helping your child start formal school well, you should definitely check out their programmes.

If you are keen to send your child to a quality preschool, do check out this Chiltern House Review for an honest review of the school.

Next, when you send your child to a childcare, he/she also learns to be able to trust adults other than their parents or their immediate family. They learn to value and build good and trusting relationships with the people who surround them. Humans by nature are social beings and they need to have people around them so that they are able to live a healthy and meaningful life. As childcare centres are a place where the child spends the majority of their time with, they are able to build friendships with the children that surround them. Some of these friendships can last a lifetime. This is the place where children can even learn the ups and downs of relationships as they are prone to have minor disagreements between themselves but the caregiver in the childcare centre helps them get through these situations and lays the foundation for dealing with these kinds of problems in the mind of the children.

Also, having a primary caregiver for your child gives them security and helps the child’s development. RD Online writes more:

“Primary caregiving supports healthy development because predictability and familiarity make the child feel safe,” says Kriener-Althen. The approach also enhances the caregivers’ ability to work in partnership with families, communicating with parents during drop-off and pick-up, learning about the family’s cultural values and child-rearing practices, and sharing insights and information about the child’s development.”

Diversity awareness
Childcare centres in Singapore have children who come from different homes and different cultures and religions, and this helps the child to be more socially aware and interact with children without any social prejudices. This is not only good for the child at that moment, but will help them grow to be more understanding individuals in the future.

Childcare centres encourage group play and having a playgroup in Singapore . This helps the children to learn to work together towards a common goal and also helps them to learn leadership and team building qualities. Child care centres are places where the child not only learns to take care of themselves they also learn to take care of and help others around them. This instils qualities such as patience, compassion, and empathy in the child. These are important qualities that should be developed in children from a young age.

Cheryl Lock writes more:

Activities and games can provide additional help in developing specific skills, and you can reinforce your child’s social development and interaction by playing The Name Game and Follow the Leader. Researchers Sandra Sandy and Kathleen Cochran developed The Name Game to help young children learn the importance of getting someone’s attention before speaking. Have kids sit in a circle and give one kid a ball. Ask him to name another child in the circle, and roll the ball to that child. The recipient then takes his turn, naming another child and rolling the ball, and so on.

In conclusion, pre-formal education is an important milestone for your child and you should use it wisely. It should not be spent frivolously but should be spent getting his/her learning foundations right to prepare him/her for his formal education years ahead. With a good preschool education, the child will be able to excel and be well received by his/her classmates later on in his/her life.

Informal Teaching Methods For Pre-Nursery

Nelson Mandela famously said “Education is the most powerful weapon which you can use to change the world. Education starts at a tender age where being receptive to all sorts of information is observed.”

If you are serious about finding a good childcare for your child, you should consider Chiltern House. Do visit this Chiltern House review for a fair assessment of the school’s activities and curriculum.

Teaching is segregated into two major types, formal and informal methods of teaching in preschool in singapore The formal method is text-book type teaching where the classroom is the set-up and the students pay attention to the teacher as she explains new concepts. This method lays more emphasis on hard work and discipline. An informal method of teaching is also based on curriculum but the approach is not as that of a traditional classroom set-up. In this method, an emphasis is laid on a relaxed and friendly environment. Some of the core elements that make the informal method of teaching effective are:-

1) Motivation as the young minds are eager to learn everything, informal methods make learning easy and fun. The child does not realize that he is learning new and challenging concepts as the teacher uses innovative ideas to teach the concept as well as continuously motivated and encourages the child. As the child is willing to learn more, he is more receptive to new information. The concentration span of a child is very short. He is still learning to develop skills required for the concentration. But with the motivation and coaching of a teacher or mentor, the child learns to pay better attention in class.

2) Stimulate the thought process once the child learns something new, it is human tendency to want to share that information with others. If the teacher teaches and then doesnt revise the concept, misinterpretation or doubt may sink into the childs mind. Instead, the teacher must encourage and give an opportunity to the child to communicate the new concept. This helps solidify the concept. As the child requires time to put his thoughts into the right words, the teacher can provide descriptive words to enable them to share their new discoveries of the concept and to also extend their vocabulary.

3) Being active no matter the curriculum, the child must have time to move around. Going for walks within the school premises, playing on the playground, jumping up and down or enacting a story; the children are more alert when they get a well-scheduled break to play to improve good blood circulation.

RSVP now to see these informal methods of teaching being put to practice by the teachers for their little geniuses.
